Spotlight on Western

As the beginning of what we hope will be a continuing series BCMS is proud to provide our audiences with exposure to the great talent that the WWU music department is nurturing by including guest WWU student performers on our concerts.

Mission

sampleThe Bellingham Chamber Music Society was formed in 2013. The Society's goal is to present world-class chamber music and performers to Bellingham audiences, to promote understanding and appreciation of classical music and to enhance the beauty of Bellingham through music.

The Society offers diverse programming, to include the standard repertoire of the great string and woodwind literature, as well as the wonderful works featuring piano, as well as harp and voice. Works by well-known and soon-to-be-well-known composers, such as Beethoven, Debussy, Brahms, Piston, Arnold, Bach, Schubert, Mozart, and Reicha, to name few, will be performed.

We are very pleased to announce that the Internal Revenue Service has granted the Bellingham Chamber Music Society 501(c)(3) status with retroactive effect to November 30, 2013. Contributions made to the Society after that date are tax deductible as allowed by law.

The third concert of the season is Sunday, January 25th at 3pm, at the Heiner Theater at Whatcom Community College (237 W Kellogg Road). This concert will feature chamber music for our most unique combination to date, with music for percussion, bassoon and violin. The program includes Arbor una nobilis by Jacob Bancks, A Night at Heaven’s Gate—A Klezmer Rhapsody by Srul Irving Glick, Duo no. 2 in F major by Beethoven, The King of Denmark by Morton Feldman and Fantasy Etudes for Bassoon and Percussion by Verne Reynolds.

Tickets to the January 25th concert are free for all students and $5.00 for general admission. Whatcom Community College is sponsoring this concert and all ticket sales go to the college.

The dates and venues for the other concerts will soon be announced—visit this website often for updates!
